NewsPCID and CLRG convened their Inaugural Consortium-Wide Meeting in Anticipation of the GCERF activities
In preparation for the commencement of the GCERF project, the Philippine Center for Islam and Democracy, in collaboration with the Center for Local and Regional Governance (CLRG), organized a comprehensive two-day consortium-wide meeting. The event took place on January 30-31, 2024, at the NCPAG Building in the University of the Philippines, drawing the participation of area coordinators, PCID, and the CLRG team.
Dr. Reginald Ugaddan, Director of the Center for Local and Regional Governance (CLRG), inaugurated the event with a welcoming message. Atty. Salma Pir Rasul, the Executive Director of the Philippine Center for Islam and Democracy, provided a concise overview of the GCERF project. Subsequent presentations included “Violent Extremism in the Philippines” by Ms. Glyzee Faustino and a briefing on the National Action Plan on Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism (NAPPCVE) by Ms. Katherine Derit, both Supervising Project Officers from the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
Following introductions to GCERF and P/CVE, the floor was yielded to the area coordinators, who shared the current peace and security situation in their designated areas. The area coordinators and their assigned regions for the GCERF project are as follows:
- Dr. Mario Aguja – Cotabato, South Cotabato, North Cotabato
- Dr. Acram A. Latiph – Lanao Del Sur, Lanao Del Norte
- Dr. Mark Anthony Torres – Iligan
- Mr. Vandrazel Birowa – Zamboanga Peninsula, Sulu, Basilan, and Tawi-tawi
These esteemed coordinators presented a Situationer on Peace and Security and Updates on PVE programs in Mindanao. An open forum on Local Peace & Order Situationer and PVE Program Updates was facilitated by Atty. Milabel Cristobal. Dr. Erwin Gaspar Alampay concluded the day with an in-depth discussion on the Concepts and Principles of Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E), followed by a workshop.
The second day of the consortium-wide event centered on internal arrangements and plans between PCID and CLRG, encompassing travel, project work plans, and financial matters related to GCERF. This comprehensive approach ensures a cohesive and well-coordinated implementation of the project’s objectives.
